What to look for in pool route and scheduling software

Start with how your routes work. Most pool companies run the same weekly stops on fixed days, so the core job is building balanced routes once and keeping them steady. Check how easy it is to set each customer's service day and frequency, including every-other-week and seasonal stops.

Route optimization pays off every week. Putting a tech's stops in the best driving order cuts fuel and time behind the wheel on every route, every week. Check that it's on the plan you'd buy, and whether you can pin stops that have to happen at a set time.

Re-routing is part of the job. Rain days, sick techs and green-pool callbacks mean stops move all the time. Look for a quick way to move or reassign stops mid-day, with the change showing up on the tech's phone right away.

Drag-and-drop scheduling matters as you add techs. Balancing routes across a team is much faster when you can drag stops between days or techs on a calendar or map, instead of editing customers one at a time.

GPS tracking answers "did they show up?" Live locations and arrival and departure times settle customer disputes and show where the day really goes. Tell your techs what's tracked and why before you turn it on.

Fleet tracking is usually a separate tool. Speeding, hard braking and vehicle maintenance are rarely part of pool route software. If you run several trucks and want that data, plan on a dedicated fleet product or an add-on.

Plan the switch. Rebuilding routes is the biggest job when you change tools. Import customer addresses and service days first, check a week of routes against your current ones, and make the move in the off-season.
